Finland“s Tamglass Engineering has announced organisational changes which it maintains will strengthen its role as a leading player in the safety glass machine business and further improve its ability to meet market demands towards the year 2000. According to a company statement, the core of the new organisation builds on deep specialisation, increased customer focus and effective use of corporate strengths and synergy throughout the network. Three Strategic Business Areas make up the new global structure of the Tamglass Group: Architectural Glass Industry, headed by Mauri Leponen; Automotive Glass Industry headed by Tommi Salenius, and Tamglass Maintenance Services, headed by Juha Liettyo. Jean-Jacques Cattin of Cattin Machines, with whom Tamglass pooled resources last year, assumes the duties of Vice President of Technical Research and maintains the position of CEO of Cattin. Kai Silander assumes the responsibility for corporate manufacturing and logistics as Vice President of Production. Pentti Salin, who remains President of Tamglass Inc., has been named Vice President, Sales (Global), while Seppo Lautamoki will serve as Sales Director with sales management responsibilities in the Middle East, Africa and Europe. In the company statement, Pentti Yliheljo, President & CEO of Tamglass Group, said: “The new organisational structure reflects the customer demands placed on us as a leading player in the global safety glass community. As a supplier of 1,000 safety glass production lines and an owner of 200 patents worldwide, we experienced 50% growth in net sales in 1996 and ended the year with another record order backlog. We are striving to better serve our customers, who showed such confidence in us last year, by bringing our 370 experts (half of whom hold engineering degrees) as close to the customer as possible via for example the 24 hour service hotlines, the new Remote On Line Service capability and via sponsoring professional lectures and seminars such as the 5th Glass Processing Days to be held 13-15 September 1997 in Tampere, Finland. Our success has been built upon attracting one customer at a time and we do not plan to lose that customer-oriented focus, we intend to sharpen it!”
