16 September 1998: At Glasstec “98, the UK firm System E Controls announced the acquisition of Thomas M. Ltd. (TML) and the appointment of Thomas Mercer as managing director. The British company said the move is part of a major growth strategy and is intended to enhance the activities of System E beyond its present markets of multi-gauging systems, particularly for the glass and plastics container industries. TML is specialized in standard gauging and calibration systems. “With TML integrated into System E, we now have a supremely stronger base for highly productive solutions at competitive prices in the standard gauging market,” said System E“s chairman, Stan Mowatt. “And with the vast expertise of Tom Mercer, we will be able to streamline our operations to provide the best in service and support to our now even wider range of customers.” TML will continue as a distribution company within System E, providing its current range of measurement and calibration products. System E says it is committed long-term to providing a complete gauging service to a wide range of industries, and that the company will continue its growth plan by expansion and/or acquisition according to the dynamic needs of the emerging new business structure.
