The manager of Austrian crystalware maker Swarovski, Gernot Langes-Swarovski, 59, resigned and was replaced by his son, Markus Langes-Swarovski, 27, and Robert Buchbauer, also member of the Swarovski family, at the end of May 2002. The company has production units in Austria, Argentina, Brazil, Italy, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Spain and Thailand, and sales units in 40 countries worldwide. Swarovski posted a turnover of EUR 1.75 billion for 2001 and had 13,400 employees. The company has 250 own shops in 28 countries and plans to open another 50 by the end of 2002.
