Austrian family-run glassware and jewellery maker Swarovski said on 8 February 2009 that it will cut 150 jobs at its headquarters in Wattens, in Tyrol. The move has been approved by the works council. The order situation in 2009 is worse than it was a year earlier, ORF Radio Tirol reported. Swarovski reduced its staff by 750 workers in 2008. Moreover, another 200 vacant positions were not filled. In addition, the company plans to relocate part of its production to the Czech Republic or China. It is still not clear, however, which parts and how many workers will be affected.
