22 January 1998: Sunglass Hut International announced its sales for the five weeks ended 3 January 1998. The company reported US$73.9 million, an increase of 8.2% compared to the US$68.3 million reported for the same period last year. Comparable store sales for the five-week period increased 3.0%. Year to date sales for the forty-eight weeks ended 3 January1998 increased 11.1% to US$553.7 million. This compares to sales of US$498.5 million reported for the same period in 1996. Year-to-date comparable store sales increased 0.3%. “With the exception of weakness in Europe, we were pleased with December“s results, particularly the strong post-Christmas period,” said James N. Hauslen, Chairman and acting Chief Executive Officer. “In addition, we continue to be encouraged by the performance of our Watch Station stores and we look forward to continued growth of this concept in 1998.”
