With an investment of EUR 37 million, Italy“s Stevanato Group inaugurated its new manufacturing facility for glass containers near Monterrey, Mexico on 24 October 2008. The Ompi of Americas plant will make glass bottles and vials for the American market. In a communique, the Ministry of Economic Development (SEDEC) of Nuevo Leon reported 23 October 2008 that the new factory will generate 260 direct jobs in the state in its first stage. The building, located in the Cinega Flores National Industrial Park, covers 6,500 square meters and will be extended from 2011 to up to 11,500 square meters. At full capacity, production will reach 370 million glass bottles and 160 million vials. Stevanato Group, established in Italy in 1949, is currently among the top three global producers of glass containers from glass tubing for the pharmaceutical industry. The company“s Glass Division specializes in primary packaging from glass tubing for cosmetic and pharmaceutical use. Nuova Ompi (Padua, Italy), Alfamatic (Latina, Italy) Medical Glass (Bratislava, Slovakia) comprise the Glass Division along with Ompi of Americas, based in Pennsylvania. The Engineering Division, based in Italy and comprising SPAMI (Padua) and OPTREL (Venice), develops projects and builds high-tech machinery and equipment for the production of containers from glass tubing. Stevanato Group has 950 employees and in 2006 recorded sales of EUR 115 million, of which 70% was the result of foreign trade. International sales reach more than 60 countries, ensuring quality and innovation to more than 300 clients and providing more than 1.6 billion containers a year.
