Slovenian glassworks Steklarna Hrastnik and construction company Rudis are holding preparatory talks to establish a company for the recycling of waste wrapping before the end of 2002. A parallel project is being developed by the Commercial Association of Interest for Waste Packaging Materials (GIZ ODEM), which unites 28 companies supplying 60% of the wrapping materials in Slovenia. The Slovenian Environment Ministry has obliged all wrapping producers, wrappers and wrapping traders to declare the amounts of wrapping they produce and to prepare reports for waste wrapping treatment in 2001. Slovenia produced 74,000 tons of waste paper, 26,000 tons of plastics, 24,000 tons of wood and glass, 13,000 tons of metals and 6,000 tons of cardboard in 1998, according to data of the Slovenian Environment Ministry.
