Recycling of glass waste from bottle banks by member companies of the Spanish Association of Glass Packaging Manufacturers (ANFEVI) increased 14.25% in the 1H of 2003 compared to the same period of 2002, to reach 664.3 million units. The Glass Container Center, a dependent of ANFEVI, noted in a release that growth compared to the 1H of 1999 was 67.5% and that the Spanish regions which recorded the largest increases were Extrmadura (194.3%) and Galicia (153.1%). According to details from the Center, Catalunya is the region which recycles the most containers, with 140.7 million (21.2% of the total), followed by Andalucia with 86.6 million (13%) and Madrid with 74 million (11.1%). At the other end of the recycling league were the regions of Extremadura, with 2.9 million items (0.4%), La Rioja (1.1%) and Cantabria, with 8.1 million (1.2%).
