16 October 1997: The US high-tech thin-film coatings operation Southwall Technologies, Inc. announced recently that it expects to report a small profit in the third quarter ending 28 September 1997, on revenues slightly higher than the second quarter. The company attributed the lower than anticipated third quarter results to start-up expenses for the new manufacturing facility in Tempe, Arizona, continuing scale-up costs for automotive films and downtime on the company“s anti-reflective films production equipment in Palo Alto, California. The company also stated that start-up activities at the new factory are progressing well and that it hopes to begin shipments of products to Sony Corporation within a few weeks.
