Despite doubts recently expressed by Belgium“s Solvay SA group concerning the time-scale for conclusion of the acquisition of Bulgaria“s Sodi-Devnya soda ash operation, the Bulgarian authorities have now announced that they expect to finalise the sell-off of 60% of the major soda ash producer to Solvay by the end of this month. “Prime minister Stefan Sofianski and Solvay representatives outlined details for finalisation of the deal by 28 February,” a government spokeswoman told reporters. The caretaker cabinet headed by Sofianski took office last week and will rule until the new parliament is elected on 19 April. Bulgaria had been without effective government since Zhan Videnov resigned as premier and Socialist party leader on 21 December last year.
