29 July 1999: Slovakian glass manufacturer Slovglass reached a gross profit of Kcs 39.8 million on revenues of Kcs 336.99 million in the first half of 1999, said the company“s production director Lubomir Zan. According to Zan, as much as 85% of the company“s production is exported and the value of the goods exported in first half of 1999 reached Kcs 283.26 million. Nearly 50% of the company“s exports go to the US. Other foreign customers include Britain, Italy, Germany and Japan. In the first half of this year the company exported goods valued at Kcs 17 million to the Czech Republic. Zan said that in the past the company had concentrated on the home market and exports to the markets of the former Soviet Union. However, following their collapse in the last few years, it has successfully entered the highly developed western markets. Not only has the company – with three production plants in Poltar, Zlatno and Katarinska Hut – halted the fall in its production, but it has also doubled its turnover. At present, the firm employs about 1,430 workers. Veluris Glass Lucenec, with 33% of the company“s shares, is the biggest shareholder of Slovglass Poltar, while about 33% of its shares are controlled by the company“s management. The remaining shares are owned by the company“s employees.
