Oldrich Karas, CEO of Czech Republic glass producer Sklo Bohemia, has said he expects company sales for the year 2000 to total Kc 1.1 billion, 18% up on the 1999 figure, while profits should be around the same as for 1999, at Kc 26.5 million. Karas attributed the increase to investment in new technologies and a revival in world markets. “We are facing excessive demand and are even signing orders for October 2001,” he said. Planned technology investment is around Kc 250 million for 2000-2001. As a result, the output of crystal glass, 92% of total production, should increase to approximately 125 tonnes a day. Exports as a proportion of total sales are forecast to rise from a 1999 figure of 77% to some 88% for 2000, with the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom and Australia as the main markets.
