Glass and chemicals group Turkey Sise ve Cam Fabrikalari (Sisecam) cut the ribbon on 20 February 2006 for the flat glass unit at its glass manufacturing complex in the town of Targovishte, north-east Bulgaria. The USD 220 million investment, one of the largest greenfield projects ever implemented in the country, was launched in 2004 and should be complete by 2007. The first production unit to start operation was the USD 75 million household glassware plant which was launched in July 2005. It has eight manufacturing lines and an annual capacity of 54,000 tonnes, or 235 million items, marketed under the Pasabahci brand. A tempered glass and mirror plant with annual capacity of 2.3 million and 2.5 million sq m will start operation in the 2H of 2006. The Bulgarian government has invested BGL 13.5 million in the infrastructure to support the Sisecam project at Turgovishte.
