1996 turnover at Turkey“s leading glass and glassware producing group Turkiye Sise ve Cam Fabrikalari A.S. (Sisecam) is reported to have increased to around TL 200 trillion in 1996, against TL 100 trillion in 1995. Sisecam“s 1996 targeted turnover was TL 210 trillion. The Sisecam group exceeded its 750-million-unit output target in glassware by 3% in 1996 and met the 400,000 tonnes production target for flat glass in the same period. The group achieved 90% of its 370,000-tonne glass jar and bottle production target and 440,000 tonnes of the 450,000-tonne output target in sodium carbonate and other chemicals in 1996. Total exports for 1996 reached US$ 385 million, meaning these were practically unchanged from 1995. The group also slightly exceeded its US$ 467-million investment programme for 1996 by spending US$ 500 million, almost double the 1995 figure of US$ 255 million. One of the group“s projects is a US$ 22 million co-generation plant to produce electricity and steam power for its needs. The plant with 215 million kWh electricity and 384,000 tonnes of steam production capacity is scheduled to be completed in July. A capacity expansion investment worth US$ 51 million will be completed in two stages, in July 1997 and February 1998, in Soda Sanayii A.S., the group“s raw material producing affiliate. The Group“s Trakya Cam operation, which produces flat glass and autoglass, reported TL 9.86 trillion of net sales in the first nine months of 1996, against TL 5.72 trillion in the same period in 1995. Anadolu Cam which manufactures flat glass, bottles and jars reported TL 2.61 trillion of net sales in January-September 1996, up from TL 1.37 trillion in the same period in 1995. The Group“s glassware producer Denizli Cam reported TL 1.06 trillion of net sales in the first nine months of 1996, up from TL 540.7 billion a year earlier.
