French glassmaker Saint-Gobain is believed to be considering a bid for British insulation company SIG Plc, according to a recent newspaper report. The report said Saint-Gobain had met British analysts to discuss its plans for the UK, and quoted one unnamed analyst as saying the French company was looking for acquisitions here. It quoted Saint-Gobain UK“s Finance Director Bil Buys as refusing to comment on whether a deal was in prospect and saying the firm looked at dozens of companies all the time. It also quoted an unnamed SIG spokesman as saying no offer had been recieved, though a bid could not be ruled out. In April, Saint-Gobain denied it was planning a bid for British glassmaker Pilkington Plc.
