Japanese chemical maker Showa Denko K.K. and optical glass maker Hoya Corp. said 18 March 2009 that they will abandon plans to integrate their hard disk media operations. The economic and industrial downturn made it difficult for the companies to go ahead with the plan, Showa Denko said. The two firms agreed September 2008 to set up a joint venture to integrate their hard disk media operations to pursue growth. The decision does not affect Showa Denko“s plan to acquire hard disk media operations from Fujitsu Ltd., Showa Denko said.
