In 2000, sales of petrochemical products at Shiraz Petrochemical Complex in Iran registered an increase of 6.1% over the preceding year. Hassan Sharifzadeh, managing director of the complex, said that over 1.743 tons of petrochemicals were produced at the complex last year, with some 93,780 tons being soda ash. This was 17.2% higher than the target and a 27 year record. Iran“s petrochemical industry signed two contracts with Italian and South Korean companies to set up carbon monoxides and acetic acid plants. Deputy Oil Minister and Managing Director of National Iranian Petrochemical Company Mohammad-Reza Nematzadeh said, at the signing ceremony, that Iran is determined to expand its petrochemical industry and raise its petrochemical production.
