India“s Shield Autoglass Ltd, which provides car glass repair and replacement services under the Windshield Experts brand, plans by the end of 2008 to increase the number of outlets to over 110 from the present 17. The company, a joint venture between Japanese glass company PSC Tokyo Ltd and Indian investment firm Allied Fincap Service, also plans to open outlets in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal, said chief operating officer Ratish Ramanujam. According to him, the number of outlets should increase to 36 in 29 cities by March 2005. These include Kolkata, Hyderabad, Thane, Pune, Vadodara, Kochi, Surat, Coimbatore and Lucknow. “By 2008, we will be able to cover 75% of the car population of India. Half of the centres will be located in the north, while the rest will be in west, south and east,” he said. Shield Autoglass has also linked up with various insurance companies to manage automotive glass claims of customers.
