Shandong Jinjing Science & Technology Co. Ltd in eastern China has recently produced its first piece of ultra white float glass. Tests by the national glass quality supervision and testing center showed that the quality of the ultra white glass fully met the design specifications. Previously, China was entirely reliant on imported ultra white glass to meet domestic demand. Ultra white glass, also known as colorless glass, is of high transparency, and is widely used in luxury buildings, electronics, auto glass, ornamental lighting and for the production of imitation crystal products. Industry insiders note that in recent years, China has imported more than 5.5 million square meters of ultra white glass a year. It is predicted that domestic market demand for the product will exceed 10 million square meters per annum from 2005. The 600-ton per day production line built by Jinjing Science & Technology involved a total investment of CNY 570 million and uses technology provided by the United States“ PPG. At full production, the line can produce 2.56 million weight cases per annum. Cao Tingfa, general manager of Jinjing Science & Technology, said ultra white glass produced by his company is highly competitive and can substitute imports. He added that with the production line now officially up-and-running, the company would reach its target of CNY 750 million in sales and profit of CNY 100 million in 2005.
