SEMI announced on 8 February 2010 that Martin van den Brink, executive vice president of Technology and Marketing for ASML, is the recipient of the 11th annual Bob Graham Award. The award for outstanding contributions in semiconductor equipment and materials marketing was presented to van den Brink during a reception at the SEMI Industry Strategy Symposium/Europe 2010 held in Dublin, Ireland. According to the nominating committee, Van den Brink has systematically aligned ASML“s core competencies to customer needs, which has led to continued market growth in lithography. His relentless push for lower cost of ownership via throughput improvements and tighter CDs has helped keep the lithography market alive. The committee also noted that van den Brink was innovative and adaptable, as shown by getting customers to share the risk with 157nm and then quickly adapting to immersion when 157 failed. Share the pain or gain with 157nm was pioneering and it changed customer-buying culture, which was a difficult marketing moves to accomplish. Further, said the committee, van den Brink had the vision and drove the creation of the ASML Twinscan platform, leading to the marketing challenge of convincing users that a high-output tool at a high price can be a cost effective solution. – which he accomplished. Martin van den Brink“s commitment and contributions to leading-edge lithography for semiconductor manufacturing has ultimately resulted in the implementation of many leading-edge litho solutions used in fabs today, said Stanley T. Myers, president and CEO of SEMI. On behalf of SEMI and its membership, I am pleased to recognize Martin van den Brink for his contributions to the success of our industry. Van den Brink has been with ASML for 25 years, with 15 years as a technologist and more recently as a marketing executive. The Bob Graham Award was established to honour individuals for the creation and/or implementation of marketing programs that enhance customer satisfaction and further the growth of the semiconductor equipment and materials industry. The award is named in honour of the late Bob Graham, the distinguished semiconductor industry leader who was part of the founding team of Intel and who helped establish industry-leading companies Applied Materials and Novellus Systems. Eligible candidates are nominated by their industry peers and are selected by an award committee comprised of members of the Sales and Marketing Executive Council of SEMI (SMECS), which includes past recipients of the Bob Graham Award. Previous recipients include Art Zafiropoulo (2000), Jim Healy and Barry Rapozo (2001), Jerry Hutcheson and Ed Segal (2002), Steve Shigeru Nakayama (2003), Edward Braun (2004), Archie Hwang (2005), Aubrey C. (Bill) Tobey (2006.), Richard Dyck (2007), Richard Hong (2008), and Peter Hanley (2009).
