Leading special glass manufacturer Schott AG announced that its CNY 10 million, 600 square-meter Asian application center has formally entered service at Suzhou in the eastern Chinese Province of Jiangsu. The German firm already has two similar R&D application centers in Germany and the US. The new center will provide its marketing offices in Asia with technologies and products in the fields of home technologies, optics, photoelectronics, medical packages and solar energy. Ten scientific researchers and engineers work at the center. Schott will invest CNY 3 million a year in the center over the next few years. On the reason why Schott chose Suzhou for the center, insiders believe that the German firm aims to establish a leading position in the Chinese optical glass market.
