29 April 1999: France“s Saverglass has bought one of Belgian glassmaker Verlipack“s production units. The cost of acquiring the Mol site near Antwerp from Verlipack, which went bankrupt in January, is estimated at over FFr 30 million (4.6 million Euros). “Thanks to the furnace at Mol and its two production lines, we will be able to increase our capacity by 40%,” said Saverglass commercial director Didier Rica of the acquisition. Saverglass, which is owned by the Desjonquieres family, is based at Feuquieres (Oise), and specializes in bottles for maturing spirits and fine wines. It employs 750 staff and has a consolidated turnover of FFr 550 million (84 million Euros), of which nearly 40% is generated from exports.
