The Saudi Arabian ministry of trade has recommended the levying of an anti-dumping duty on imported soda ash. For imports of soda ash from the United States, the duty would be the difference between US$ 345.4 per tonne and the landed value of imports. A similar system of differential duties would be applied to imports from France, Japan and Iran. In the case of Saudi Arabia itself, the ministerial authorities also recommended differential anti-dumping duty. For producers SADF and SABIC, the anti-dumping duty would be the difference between US$ 270.68 and the landed value of soda ash, while other producers would pay the difference between US$ 256.38 per tonne and the landed value of the product. In September 2000, soda ash output fell by 23.2%. In September 1999, there had been 21.8% growth. However, cumulative production at the end of the first half of 2000-2001 was 11.3% higher than in the corresponding period of 1999-2000.
