Sangalli Vetroitalia Group will invest EUR 138 million in a flat glass plant at San Giorgio di Nogaro (Udine province). The project, whose implementation began 1 December 2008, was presented in Udine by Giorgio Sangalli, president of the group founded 112 years ago, who explained that the plant is designed to meet demand from northern Italy, Bavaria, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia. The location near the industrial port, he added, will reduce a number of costs, such as those for the procurement of raw materials. The development will create 370 new jobs directly and 130 indirectly. With regard to the environment, Mr. Sangalli stressed that “all the permits have been obtained and the environmental impact is low. All scrap glass produced is consumed internally, waste water is absent, and the consumption of extracted water is limited. Inert, non-hazardous materials and clean fuels are used, as well as the best technologies for emissions treatment, to stay well below legal limits”.
