In the world LCD glass substrate market, Samsung Corning Precision Glass (SCPG) is growing rapidly. The company exceeded KRW 2 trillion in revenue in 2007, 12 years after it was founded. It is now emerging as the world largest glass substrate maker, surpassing total shipments by Corning. As it has achieved the largest production capability in the larger than 7G glass substrate business, its growth is expected to continue. To maintain its momentum, Samsung Corning Precision Glass has greatly expanded production capacity of 8G glass substrates. It will invest a total of USD 2.78 trillion for the next three years and will build a large glass substrate factory in Tangjung, Chungnam province by 2010. Investments in 2008 will total USD 1.52 trillion. As of the end of 1Q 2008, the company“s 66% market share put it ahead of Asahi Glass, NEG and NHT. The industry estimates that in the over-7G glass substrate market, it achieved nearly 80% market share. “The company ranked first in delivery by size because local LCD panel companies like Samsung and LG have invested 7,8G large panels far more than rivals. Considering characteristics of glass substrate market, mass-production capability can lead to market share so this trend will continue”, said Chung Yoon-sung, director of Display Search Korea. Production capacity will rise by 31% in 2008 because panel companies in Japan and Taiwan as well as Korea are massively expanding 7G and 8G production lines.
