Samsung Corning, the Malaysian glass display panel and television tube manufacturer recently announced a RM 200 million plant expansion project. The project, for Samsung Corning“s Tuanku Jaafar Industrial Park facility, involves the setting up of an additional production line, scheduled to come on stream in mid-2001. The expansion will enable Samsung Corning to produce an extra four million display panels a year. “The investment is to cater to the increasing demand for glass panels and funnels from manufacturers of televisions and monitors of the south-east Asian countries,” said Samsung Corning managing director Lee Byung Rai. The glass panels and funnels are sold principally to Samsung Corning“s sister company, Samsung SDI, which manufactures colour picture tubes (CPTs) and colour display tubes (CDTs). Remaining output is exported to Korea, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Vietnam and China.
