Korean manufacturer of glass for TV tubes, Samsung Corning Co. has further localized production of an indium tin oxide (ITO) target, a coating material for flat displays, such as liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and plasma display panels (PDPs). Samsung Corning Co., which began importing the technology in 1999 under a strategic alliance with Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., plans to begin producing three tons of ITO targets a month. The company aims not only to supply local flat display manufacturers with its product, but foreign producers as well, with the exception of Japanese companies. The company has put Won into the development so far, and said its first overseas targets are China and Taiwan.
