Samsung Corning, the joint venture between Samsung of Korea and Corning of the US, said that it has completed the facility expansion of a glass bulb factory in Brandenburg, Germany, thus increasing its capacity for the key part for picture tubes from the current 1.8 million units to 8 million units. The newly-opened glass bulb factory will serve as a basic manufacturing unit for Samsung Corning in a vertical colour television production line in Europe. The company said it invested Won 220 billion to build the plant in Tschernitz, Brandenburg, after taking over glass bulb maker Fernseh Glas Tschernitz in 1994. Samsung said sales of its German plant were forecast at Won 95 billion in 1997 and Won 130 billion in 1998.
