Saint Gobain“s Brazilian glass operations including packaging, building glass, automotive, electrical and electronic, and glass wool and fiber, accounted for 40% of the BRL 4.8 billion income reported by the company in Brazil in 2004, up 10% on 2003. So said the representative of Saint Gobain“s general delegation for Brazil and Argentina, Mr. Jean-Pierre Floris. In 2005, the company is hoping for big things from the USD 120 million new production line of flat glass manufacturer Cebrace (Companhia Brasileira de Cristais), which was installed in 2004. The new unit focuses on the civil construction market. Between December 2004 and January 2005, Saint Gobain invested BRL 60 million in furnace refurbishments at the Rio Grande do Sul unit and acquired machinery to improve packaging quality in order to win market share from imports. The company exports to 40 countries in South America, South Africa and the Middle East.
