Saint-Gobain has chosen to produce glass for solar panels at its factory in Vioo Pielagos, Cantabria. The material is currently imported from China and Germany. The market for solar panels in Spain is estimated at EUR 2.5 billion a year. The manufacture of the material in Cantabria will involve an investment of EUR 41 million and the hiring of 160 employees. The announcement comes in a year in which the French group has proposed the elimination of 4,000 jobs, of which 270 in Spain, 1550 in the United States and 1,100 in the United Kingdom. Saint-Gobain employs 210,000 worldwide.
