The Brazilian unit of French auto glass maker Saint-Gobain Sekurit has won a bid to export windscreens to the Europe aftermarket and supply Auto Ver, a Saint Gobain division in Belgium. When the Brazilian unit started exports to Europe in 2002, the market accounted for 2% of the company“s revenue. In 2003, the share of European exports reached 10% and in 2004 it is expected to reach 15%, according to Renato Holzheim, director-general of Saint-Gobain in Brazil. Holzheim also said that the company“s plant in Maua, in the southern state of Sao Paulo, was on three shift working to meet rising export demand. The plant employs 850 people and the division invested USD 5 million in order to expand production from 1.6 million to 2 million units per year. Saint Gobain Sekurit plans to increase exports to the US as well. It supplies the Argentinean subsidiaries of Renault and Peugeot.
