French glass and building materials giant Saint-Gobain SA has postponed the sale of its packaging unit due to the credit crunch, Saint-Gobain Chief Executive Pierre-Andre de Chalendar said in an interview 8 December 2008 in German newspaper Handelsblatt. Mr. de Chalendar said potential buyers would have trouble at this point obtaining the necessary credit for such an acquisition. The postponement is no tragedy, however, as he is satisfied with the unit“s operating performance. The company will nevertheless seek to sell the unit in due course.
