Saint-Gobain Oberland AG, a German unit of French glass and building materials group Saint-Gobain, posted after-tax profit of EUR 14.4 million (USD 18.3 million) for the 1H 2006, down from EUR 22.7 million (USD 28.9 million) for the year-earlier period, the company said on 14 August 2006. The result for the 1H 2006 was impacted by the sale of the company“s electronic controller manufacturers Futronic GmbH elektronische Geraete und Industriesteuerungen and Futronic elektronische Geraete und Industriesteuerungen AG & Co. KG. The prior-year figure, however, included the proceeds of the sale of Saint-Gobain Oberland“s flat glass unit. In the 1H 2006, Saint-Gobain Oberland invested mainly in the building of new production lines at its Russian unit Saint-Gobain Kavminsteklo and its Ukranian unit Saint-Gobain Zorya. Sales totalled EUR 203.1 million (USD 258.7 million) after EUR 154.5 million (USD 196.8 million). The number of employees at the company, including apprentices, rose to 3,366 as of 30 June 2006, against 2,264 on 31 December 2005, due to the integration of Saint-Gobain Kavminsteklo. The company did not exclude future price increases in the event of higher raw material prices.
