Saint-Gobain Glass India Ltd. (SGGI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Saint-Gobain in France, is looking to establish a solar glass complex with an investment of around INR 5-6 million. The company is scouting for land, around 60 acres, and the plant is likely to come up in Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh. A spokesperson for SGGI said the company was in talks with the Tamil Nadu government as well as the neighboring states. SGGI representatives have also asked for certain incentives, as power, along with raw material, is considered critical for the unit. The facility will make products like solar glass, solar mirror and thin glass. Since these products have export potential, the company is keen to establish it as an export-oriented unit, to come up in a proximity to a sea port as well as sourcing of raw materials. A company spokesperson said SGGI would like to export at least 50% of the produce.
