Saint-Gobain Glass Romania, a unit of French glass and construction materials producer Saint Gobain, has increased its share capital by EUR 14 million (USD 17.5 million) to ROL 417.6 million (USD 149 million/EUR 119 million), according to data published by the Official Gazette. It is the third increase in capital Saint-Gobain Glass Romania has carried out since the beginning of 2006. The company increased its capital by EUR 12 million (USD 15 million) in April 2006, and by further EUR 20 million (USD 25.1 million) in August 2006. Saint-Gobain Glass Romania is one of the nine companies which French Saint Gobain has set up in Romania. Saint-Gobain Glass Romania started the construction of a flat glass plant in Calarasi, southern Romania, in 2004, and the new facility will start operations in November 2006. The company plans to export 50% of the output from the new plant to neighbouring Bulgaria and Serbia, as well as to Greece and Poland. Saint Gobain consists of 1,200 companies with a combined workforce of 185,000 in over 50 countries. The group reported a net profit of EUR 813 million (USD 1.0 billion) for the 1H of 2006.
