Saint-Gobain will invest EUR 30 million in a new furnace for special glass at Avils in north-west Spain. The output from the furnace, which will have a capacity of 30 tonnes a day, will be used to make LCD touch screen glass. The investment decision has already been taken, initial studies carried out, and talks have opened with suppliers. The expenditure will be approved at the beginning of March 2007 by group management in Paris with the aim of launching production in January 2008. The investment is a clear sign of intent towards the Aviles plant and more specifically the R&D centre (CIDA) currently led by Maurice Lemaille.
