Spain“s Saint-Gobain Cristalera will hire 17 people on retiree substitution contracts in 2007 to replace an equal number of employees who have attained the requirements for retirement in the 2006-2007 period. The company has closed the list of candidates who must pass selection tests in order to join the firm and the first tests for 550 candidates will take place in February 2007. The new recruits will join the firm during the course of the year. Jos Mara Lombarda of Comisiones Obreras said the union wished to boost the retiree substitution contract in companies. Since 2004, Saint-Gobain has hired 104 under this system.
