Saint-Gobain Containers is the subject of a new television documentary and is marking the 400th anniversary of the glass industry in North America. The company is the top supplier of glass bottles to beer giant Anheuser-Busch, and that distinction helped attract the attention of the producers of World“s Greatest, a TV series broadcast on Ion Television. “They had done a special on Anheuser-Busch, and we“re the largest supplier to them”, said Gina Behrman, Saint-Gobain Containers“ spokesman. “They asked questions about our company, including our forward-looking goals, and they chose us as one of the world“s greatest companies”. The producers filmed segments at Saint-Gobain“s corporate headquarters in Muncie, Indiana and at one of the company“s production facilities. The programme was shown in late November 2008 on Ion Television and is likely to be repeated, Ms. Behrman said. The company is also marking the 400th anniversary of the glass-packaging industry in the United States, dating back to October 1608 in Jamestown, Virginia and is promoting Recycle Glass Day on 10 December 2008. The observance was launched by the Glass Packaging Institute. The industry produces more than 35 billion glass containers a year in the United States. “We encourage recycling whether its through organized community efforts, through municipalities or drop-off sites”, Ms. Behrman said. “Glass is endlessly recyclable, and recycling reduces our energy usage and has lots of benefits to the environment”. Saint-Gobain Containers is the second-largest glass container manufacturer in the United States and has 14 manufacturing facilities.
