Belgian investor Albert Frere has no intention of buying shares in Saint-Gobain S.A., the French building materials group, according to a report on the website of La Tribune on 1 December 2006, without citing sources. Market talk circulated on 30 November 2006 that Frere was building a stake in Saint-Gobain. He already controls 13% of cement company Lafarge SA, which, according to a report from Breakingviews, could pair up with private equity interests to bid for Saint-Gobain. Shares in Compagnie de Saint-Gobain were 3% higher in mid-morning deals on 30 November 2006 on market talk that Lafarge could be considering a takeover of the group, dealers said.
