French glass producer Saint-Gobain aims to increase its market share in Brazil through the expansion of special glass production towards civil construction and furniture industry. The aim is to raise the production of printed glasses by 5% per year or 3,000 tons. The domestic printed glass market is shared by Saint-Gobain and UBV (Uniao Brasileira de Vidros), 50% market share each, and glass consumption reaches 120,000 tons per year in Brazil. Concerning flat glass, in which market Saint-Gobain has 60% share, domestic consumption totals 580,000 tons per year and the main competitor of Saint-Gobain is British Guardian. Saint-Gobain has also a partnership with British glassmaker Pilkington in flat glass producer Cebrace.
