The industrial ceramics division of French glassmaker Saint-Gobain announced the acquisition of Quartz International, a California-based manufacturer of quartz components for the semiconductors sector. With estimated turnover of some US$ 25 million (Euro 23.4 million) in 1999, the company, a subsidiary of Toshiba Ceramics of the US, is number three in its sector in the US. It employs 200 people and has five sites in the US and one in Ireland.
