In a move that opens the possibility of co-operation on glass manufacturing, the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Malaysian state of Sabah and of the Slovak Republic signed an agreement on 11 December 2004 to strengthen links and promote trade as well as industrial, economic and technical cooperation between their respective members. Commenting on the agreement, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman told reporters: “Among areas that can be explored for cooperation is in the manufacture of glass which the Slovak Republic has the expertise… silica sand industry is a big industry there” The agreement was signed in conjunction with the visit to Sabah of the President of the Slovak Republic, Ivan Gasparovic. The accord follows a visit to central and eastern Europe that a Malaysian delegation led by Chief Minister Musa made between 26 September and 10 October 2004.
