More than 60 enterprises are currently involved in making packaging glass for the Russian food industry. Over the last few years packaging glass production has been the most dynamic sector of the Russian glass industry, and one of the most dynamic areas of the economy as a whole, thanks to considerable investment. In 2006 alone, packaging glass production increased 26% year-on-year and exceeded 10.2 billion units, according to RBC. Output is concentrated in the Central Federal District where the largest volume producers and customers are located. The Southern Federal District is the largest regional producer of glass packaging for preserved foods and about 84% of the Russian product is made in this region. At the same time, it is worth noting that almost no glass packaging is produced east of the Urals.
