OOO Tatneft P-D-Alabuga Steklovolokno, a joint venture between Tatneft-Alabuga and P-D Glasseiden GmbH Oschatz (a subsidiary of the German Preiss-Daimler Group), will continue construction of a production plant for fiberglass and fiberglass-based products with an output capacity of 21,000 tons per year. The first stage of commissioning (fiberglass processing) is scheduled for late November 2009. The second stage (fiberglass production) is scheduled for April 2010, Tatneft said. The project will result in the emergence of a new high-tech production plant in the territory of the Alabuga Special Economic Zone (Republic of Tatarstan), which will create about 300 jobs. The joint venture is oriented to manufacturing high-quality glass fiber products used in construction, automotive, shipbuilding, electro-technical and other industries. Investment in the project will amount to EUR 74 million and EUR 20.8 million has been spent to date. The joint venture is aimed at producing high-quality competitive products made of fiberglass for application in construction, automotive, shipbuilding, electro-technical and other industries. The venture will produce direct roving (used as a reinforcing material for plastics filling, overwrapping, machine spraying, fiberglass pipes, etc.), fiberglass mats (used for the production of fiberglass panels, boat hulls, bath tubs, vehicles, vehicle bumpers, boxes, etc.), and fiberglass mesh (intended for plastering, reinforcement of asphalt/concrete surface coverage, thermal insulation, etc.). Preiss-Daimler Group will organize production on a turnkey basis ensuring the training of professionals and it will also provide the own brand and know-how, refractory materials for the glass melting furnace, process equipment, etc., and in addition the company plans to arrange sales of the products through its marketing network. The advantages of building the factory in the territory of SEZ Alabuga include tax incentives, favorable geographical location (proximity to a large petrochemical and a large automobile manufacturing businesses and other industrial enterprises), as well as a well-developed regional transport infrastructure.
