The Ruscam-Ufa glass plant at Ufa (autonomous republic of Bashkortostan, Russia) is scheduled to be officially inaugurated on 8 September 2006. Agreement has been reached between leaders of the Bashkortostan government, investor Anadolu Cam Sanayii A.S. of Turkey and the company representative office in Russia. The new plant has a projected annual capacity of 700 million bottles. The first light-weight transparent glass bottle production line began operation in November 2005 and the other dark-glass bottle line started up in early June 2006. The Turkish company has invested an estimated EUR 80 million in the project and is ready to invest a similar amount to build more melting furnaces. Should this happen, the annual capacity of the Ufa works will exceed one billion bottles, making it the largest container glassworks in Europe. The Turkish company also plans to bid for the right to develop the Yermolayevskoye quartz sand deposit in Bashkortostan, the main source of raw materials for the plant. The firm is ready to invest EUR 40 million in developing the quarry.
