10 December 1998: Royal Doulton“s chief executive Patrick Wenger, seriously injured in an Australian road accident, has been transferred to a private hospital, said a recent press report. Wenger, 54, has been in intensive care at Royal Melbourne Hospital since the recent accident. Now he has been transferred to the intensive care unit of Melbourne Private Hospital because of pressure on intensive care beds at the Royal. Wenger, who has been the chief executive of the company for 18 months, is in a “stable condition.” Wenger, who was on a business trip to Australia and Indonesia, suffered severe chest injuries including a punctured lung. He was a passenger in a taxi which hit a tree and overturned as he was going to Melbourne Airport.
