1 July 1999: According to a recent report, Royal Doulton of the UK has cut four jobs at its Royal Crown Derby site, as part of 1,200 redundancies being made worldwide. The factory is also being put back onto a five-day week. The news is a relief – if only temporary – to workers who had been warned that redundancies might be much higher at the plant. “We cannot guarantee that there will not be redundancies in the future,” said company spokeswoman Valerie Baynton.
