Russia“s Rostovsteklo is expected to launch a U.S. $12-million production facility to manufacture glass beer bottles in southern Russia“s Rostov-on-Don Region in the first quarter of 2003, an official with the region“s Industry Ministry said on 15 July. At this point, the project, started in October 2001, has been halfway completed, he said. The official said the plant will supply bottles to both local brewers and beer producers in other Russian regions. The plant“s capacity is expected to be between 110 million and 120 million half-litre bottles. Rostovsteklo is currently seeking discounted power rates from the region“s Energy Commission, citing the power-intensive nature of the plant, with energy bills forecasted to amount to 35% of the facility“s total costs.
