Rostelecom of Russia has opened new fibre-optic commutation centres on the Moscow-St. Petersburg and Moscow-Novorossisk lines. Rostelecom said construction of the STM 16 centre in the Noginsk-Podberezye section of the Moscow-St. Petersburg fibre-optic trunk line ran from February to September 1999 as part of a contract with Japan“s Sumitomo. The STM 16 SDH apparatus and INC100 control and management systems with a transferral rate of 2.5 Gb/s enables domestic and international calls from Moscow to be routed through the St. Petersburg commutation centre. The second STM 16 on the Rodionovo-Nesvetaiskoye-Aksai (first section of the Aksai-Lugansk fiber-optic trunk line) ran May-June 1999 under a contract with Germany“s Siemens. SDH apparatus such as SLD-16, SMT-1D, and SMA-4 increase capacity on the Moscow Novorossisk route.
