Romanian glass and ceramics firms will export USD 180 million worth of products in 2004, close to the level in 2003, according to the employers“ association for the sector. Exports of ceramics and glass, porcelain and faience to over 40 countries totalled USD 181 million in 2003, said Maria Danciulescu, CEO of the Glass and Ceramics Employers“ Organization, STICEF. She added that exports for 2004 were forecast to continue at a similar level. Exports account for about 60% of the output of Romanian glass and ceramics factories, as high unit and wage costs combine to make prices less accessible for the Romanian market. STICEF comprises 51 firms in the field of glass, porcelain or mnage and decorative faience, and the raw materials used for manufacturing these products. Member firms of STICEF have about 24,000 employees.
